YHA Queenstown (current)

Overlooking Lake Wakatipu, this proposed 280-bed hostel will be the flagship YHA facility in the South Island. In response to the site's location on the edge of the township various strategies have been adopted to reduce the apparent scale of the building.

Most apparent of these is the division of the building into three separate wings. These wings are further reduced in scale by the use of various claddings that reflect the local building vernacular. The building will also feature a number of passive sustainable design features in line with YHA's commitment to Environmental Sustainable Design
