St Bede’s College - Grimes Classroom Building.
This new two storey teaching block contains a multi purpose foyer space as well as a large food technology classroom at ground floor, and a suite of interlinked fine arts classrooms with a dedicated print/ spray booth room at first floor. The ground floor foyer space doubles as a home base for one of the college's house groups and opens out onto the quad to the West via canopied decks.
The simple rectilinear form is enlivened by articulating the structural system with double height precast concrete fins. The fins support external sunscreens and canopies that create shade for the glazed ground floor foyer space and the first floor circulation gallery space. Dark precast concrete and standing seam clad wing walls bookend the building concentrating its gaze onto the quad.
