St Bede's College
Performing Arts Building

The strengthening of the existing Performing Arts Centre has created an opportunity for the college to reimagine how this building can serve the college community. Flexibility is the key and this will be achieved through the addition of a new foyer that can be used for teaching, presentations, and the exhibition of student work. This tall glazed space spills out onto a deck raised above the adjacent garden and looks out to the new chapel to the South. The approach to the building is via a raised terrace which will provide a pre-function external gathering space and links to the new chapel so both buildings can be used in tandem. Terracotta cladding will reference the brick of the new chapel and the wider campus. Hospitality for the variety of functions that will take place will be provided by a new servery and commercial kitchen. The strengthening work in the existing building will leave its spaces largely unchanged. However new finishes after the strengthening work is complete will give the whole building a new lease of life. ❮
